The CO2 Controversy in Canada
The Kerr family in Weyburn, Canada lived near an oil recovery site, where CO2 has been injected underground for many years. Foul-smelling gases and contaminants began bubbling up on their property, forcing them to abandon their home. A recent study commissioned by the Kerrs found high levels of CO2 in the soil on their property. The Kerrs say this is evidence that gases are leaking from the nearby carbon sequestration site, but the industry has rushed to discredit the study in a response published in Scientific American.
